From Mumbai and Beyond.......

Following the recent Mumbai attacks and the subsequent rounds of accusations and denials by Indian and Pakistani Government, one can only pity at the political immaturity of those in authority and in charge of our security.Be it the then Deputy CM RR Patil commenting,"Bade shahron mein aise ek adh hadse hote rahte hain. Woh 5,000 logon ko marne aye the lekin humne kitna kum nuksan hone diya" or the CM Vilasrao Deshmukh cooking Ramgopal Verma ki Aag Part 2 starring his son while on visit to the Taj Hotel after the attacks, none of the leaders left any shame to be bestowed on the Nation.Sentiments apart, one has to seriously think about the secrurity of the citizens and the state nation is in today.Blasts after blasts would surely put us in the list of most dangerous places on earth, leave alone the the damage it would cause to tourism, hospitality and related industries as well as FDIs(By the way,ULFA in Assam wished us new year with three serial blasts in Guwahati on January 1, 2009) .Financial instabilty is the last thing we want in this global downpour and is exactly what the terrorists dream of achieving.Present exercise of presenting proofs of pakistani hands in the attacks to pakistan(which,to me,appears a bit cynical as well as comical) and the world community is futile,if not useless, due to following reasons:

1) China,an important member of UN Security council, had tested for Pakistan its first nuclear bomb as early as in 1990, enabling Islamabad to respond within weeks to the Indian atomic tests eight years later.(Who needs enemies when you have such neighbours !!!).So are we expecting china to make pakistan behave :)....

2) Most countries would not go the extent of directly forcing pakistan to take any significant (read intentional with true spirit) action against (its) islamic extremists even if India presents universally acceptable proof(which of course is a remote and distant possibility),when they themselves are plagued by their own internal strifes. So no wonder somebody said "Self help is the best help"(Do I also intend to point to Israel--yess I do,at least take some lessons in 'restraints')

3) US itself is involved in a strategically significant war in Afganistan against al-qaeda and taliban with (half hearted) support of pakistan and the tradeoff invloved,at this point of time, seems to be tilted in the favour of non involvement(but nevertheless comitted to Indian Interests).

4) Finally as pointed out earlier, the perpetrators of attacks have done their best to hide proofs and so you can't get enough proofs to prove state involvement of the instituition which at the back end is secretly wishing that no further embarrasing proof ever surfaces...

In a nutshell,I wish to see our leaders as Enterprising statesmen rather than petty and insane politicians( no Ronen Sen type pun intented !!!!!!.)(Well, I don't have to atleast fear prosecution by Parliament ).But alas, who can make them see who have eyes but don't want to see and who can make them hear those who have ears but don't want to hear.Is God listening !!!(Sometimes I think I should get a chance like Bruce Nolan)
