About me

So finally I have a blog....I had been thinking about it ever since I read some really interesting blogs on blogger (mainly by Bitsians) and elsewhere but then I was never sure of sustaining the momentum which arose of a (now frequent) frustrating nightout dedicated to one our much feared Compulsory Discipline Courese(CDCs) here at BITS,Pilani.(Theory of Computation,if I remember correctly)...Well, jokes apart,I really don't know how regularly I will be blogging but all I can promise is that this blog will certainly reflect the issues and questions haunting my mind, which I hope would remain relevant to many of the visitors..

I would just love to say that I am the average guy next door, but then it doesn't really matter and more importantly I am not .....When I was young(I still am ,if 21 sounds young to you) and my friends wanted to be doctors,engineers,architects,scientists(blahhhh..........) I wasn't even sure what these professions meant to me and why I would want to be like them?On being influenced by one of those Animal Planet type documentaries, which were rare in those Doordarshan days,I became convinced that I wanted to be like the person filming deep ocean creatures with those bulky cameras and skin tight costumes. But when I asked my father what one calls these people even he didn't know and later when I asked my Geography teacher(whom I was sure was the most appropriate person to answer this question) ,she replied"May be they are some scuba diving people who don't get any other job. These foolish Americans only know how to waste time..."(this is the closest I can translate her Hindi reply....)

The point is,not many things have changed since then and I am sure they won't change for decades. We are all bound to face the same identity crisis which has plagued many of young Indian minds. How many parents even today want their children to become anything except doctors and engineers and so on....what I am sure is that society can't survive with just these professions..

May be this is the time I should be back to my story.....so they say and as the fate had destined,I was born to be an engineer and became one(rather, should become one in about a years time). But still I devote a lot of time on web, surfing on Wikipedia and elsewhere ,about history, geography, people, cultures and so on and feel the time and effort worth spent..I still feel anything interesting interests me,whatever be the background.

And finally a word of advice to the budding engineers at BITS and elsewhere--Go out and enjoy your days .It will never come back again.Be open to changes and enjoy chai, samosa ,shikangi, bunking classes !!!!!!

All the Best.

Hi Jayant,
(pardon me for replying to your post so late..I promise to be swifter next time.)
I completely agree engineering is a brigtht career option and would prepare u better to face d problems ahead...however what I only want to assert here is that ppl should remain open to other career opportunities as well..many a time ppl around you trick you into thinking engineering (or medicine)is the only best career option available and is the only means of survival...everyone should be free to choose what they love to do with an open mind,so if u think u were born to be an engineer go ahead but just dont drag yourself into it in case u don't..
